The designer listened to our wishes, suggesting a range of options without any pressure.Our builder was very impressed with the detailed plans and the ease of fitting the units and it worked out cheaper than quotes from similar companies. Having compared External Grade Oak Panelled doorsets with other merchants, I decided to opt for the Benchmarx Door and fame manufactured by XL Joinery which happened to come with a 12 month warranty.Despite being fully prepared in accordance with the manufacturers written recommendations and installed by an accredited building contractor, the door itself began delaminating within the central panel within 2 months of installation. Prior to this, no information provided by either XL or Benchmarx set out that the doorset contained veneer components and as such, I was surprised at the rate of deterioration and nature of it. When reported to Benchmarx, the response was for us to purchase another door. Quite how this is justified when the door was under two months old and was sold with a 12 month warranty I am unsure. However, due to the resistance and our requirement just to get the house finished, I agreed and arranged for the contractor to fit the new door. Again, 2 months following fitting, defects in the replacement doorset have accrued and the frame has deteriorated. This is not the standard of quality external doorset that I would expect or the customer service I would expect from a national merchant. Needless to say, I am issuing proceedings to recover all costs and also, as a Chartered Surveyor and Project Manager, will specifically be avoiding Benchmarx products on all future projects.
